Before you start

Do not worry about making it sound impressive yet.

First, get the information down. Think beyond clubs and school organizations. Jobs, family responsibilities, athletics, service, creative work, independent projects, and other meaningful commitments may all be part of the picture.

Once everything is in front of you, you can start thinking about what belongs on the application and how the pieces fit together.

The Activities section is not about squeezing in the most impressive list. It is about using limited space to show what your senior actually spent time doing and contributing.
Once the list is on paper

Knowing what they did is only the first part.

The Common App gives students limited space. Which activities belong? What order makes sense? What details matter? What should be left out? Those decisions can be harder than making the original list.

Common App Strategy & Support

“We have the activities. We’re just not sure how to use them in the Common App.”

This is exactly the kind of decision-making our Common App Strategy & Support service is designed to help with.

We start with the student’s actual experiences.

You send us materials such as a résumé or list of activities and honors. Jennifer and Heather review them, ask targeted clarification questions when needed, and prepare personalized recommendations for presenting the student clearly and accurately throughout the Common App.

The goal is not to turn ordinary teenage experiences into something they are not. It is to make sure meaningful experiences are not overlooked and the available space is used thoughtfully.
