Monday Momentum
September feels urgent. Your student still does not need to do everything.
The problem this week is not a lack of tasks. It is letting every task feel equally important. Choose one meaningful outcome and finish it before opening five more.
This week, finish one thing that moves the story forward.
Use the grade guidance below to choose the right outcome. The middle line is the move that matters most.
9th Grade
FoundationYour student should know how to track assignments, ask for help, and find the activities available at school.
Attend one club, team, service, arts, or interest meeting that genuinely sounds worth exploring. The goal is participation, not resume building.
College lists, standardized testing, and chasing a leadership title.
10th Grade
DepthYour student should be noticing which classes, interests, and activities still hold their attention after the first month.
Choose one area to deepen and identify a concrete next contribution, skill, responsibility, or goal within it.
Adding unrelated activities simply because they might look impressive.
11th Grade
PlanningYour student should have a realistic testing plan and a first group of colleges or programs to explore, not a final list.
Complete one testing action: register for the October ACT by September 11 or the October SAT by September 18, then schedule the next preparation block.
Finalizing a college list or choosing next year's application essay topic.
12th Grade
ApplicationsYour student's earliest deadline, required materials, testing policy, recommendation plan, and current essay status should be clear.
Finish one major application component completely: the personal statement or the Activities and Honors sections. Do not bounce between both.
Perfecting tiny wording choices while major sections remain unfinished.
Senior watch
September 11 is the regular registration deadline for the October 17 ACT. September 12 is SAT test day. September 18 is the registration deadline for the October 3 SAT. Looking ahead, FSU Early Action and UF Early Decision applications are due October 15.
